To-Do List
There are many distractions in our day-to-day life, which is exacerbated by many of us working from home.
It can be having a video call on Zoom, to having another on Microsoft Teams, with a bombardment of questions coming from all directions.
Not everyone can endure this treatment day in and day out, especially now, when we have been stuck at home for the longest time ever in our lives.
Our thought process is always divided, and it is difficult to pin down important lessons for reflection, to explore what is important and what is not. It can feel like there are too many things to clear, from the moment we open our eyes at the break of dawn till the evening when we can shut them to rest.
Here are 3 things that I always do when I start my day:
- Scan through my social media platforms
, with the sole purpose of contributing towards better discussions and conversations that will improve me and my business
- Scan through my emails and consider which ones are the more important ones to reply to.
- Unsubscribe to the mailers that I have deleted more than 3 times. Why even have them in your mailbox if you are not interested in what they are sending?
Flag those emails that require some thought, before replying. Do not reply to emails just to clear the inbox. Some replies require a good thought process. Allocate 15 minutes to clear off all these more important emails where a discussion chain is not required. Once a discussion chain is started, it sucks our precious time into it, which may yield little outcome.
For those that are in the discussion chain, read the latest one to see what are the “to-dos”. Someone must make the decision and direction. Are you the one to do so or the one that is part of the chain, just to be seen?
- Scan through WhatsApp, telegram and MS Teams on matters that require an instant reply.
Identify matters that can be turned into tasks for the day or week VS those that are just for informational purposes only.
Add value by putting in the effort to think through from someone else’s perspectives before replying to a discussion chain. Do not waste everyone’s time reading on things that may not be as important as you think it is.
