Every one of us is given 24 hours a day but somehow some seem to be able to accomplish much more than others? How did that happen?
Is there any additional upgrade that you can get an extra hour or so just by paying for it, like a game? Unfortunately, no.
This is constantly on us on how to get a productive day where there are just so many things on our plates to clear off. It is suffocating, and the pressure just keeps piling on us slowly where you can feel the damn world laying on our shoulders with all that responsibilities choking us!
I was like this with 1001 things to do the moment both eyes are opened in the morning. Everyone wants a piece of you, to make decisions, to set directions for the business and even what to do when some crisis hits.
It took a 2nd heart operation on me to realize that many things actually do not matter if you are on the edge of death.
This is what I am doing now and I get more extra hours to do things that help me to do things that I enjoy more:
- Some things are more important than others. Not everything is important tomorrow. It may be important today to resolve them, but it may not be necessary for tomorrow.
- Solve the most difficult tasks first. It may take the longest time but the impact should also be the largest when it is solved.
- Get the right people to solve the challenges and to attend the meetings. What is difficult for me may just be easily sorted out by someone with more experience in a few minutes.
- Face to face is more important these days. With the advancement of technologies, we have relied on it so much that sometimes 2 cups of coffee can help establish a better understanding of both parties.
- Multitasking is not for everyone but it is for me, as I work best under pressure and yet at the same time switching things between to keep the mind fresh and ideas fresher.
- Walk away but without saying it out first. Sometimes when clients are being an ass, just walk away and let them fumble on their own first. Nothing beats learning a good lesson on your own.
- Cloud — Have the right devices to access the data and content, and make it available on your phone, tablet, laptop and computer. Investment on Software As A Service is worth every dollar.
- Stubborn people are best to be left alone and let them perish on their own at their own pace, than to spend time and resources trying to tell them what not to do or give them suggestions and advice. They like to turn on you when they could not pull it through on their own and make it your business to help them instead.
Cut out and minimize such nonsense and you can gain many hours from your daily activities! Try it and let me know how it turns out for you.
