Read

I love to read!

If it is a Science Fiction book, it brings you to places that you can never imagine. If it is a Horror book, you probably think twice to go check out the creaking windows.

But as I have gotten older, I read less of this fictional stuff but more of the self-improvement, corp type of books. Books that give you a glimpse of how to provide your thought process, understanding of a business concept, or simply ‘how-to’ books as a guide to your work and career.

Here’s what I always do when reading such books, in a very non-traditional way. I like to start from the last chapter!

The conclusion will likely give you everything that you need to know from Chapter One onwards. And from there, I will jump into any chapters that I am most curious about as many of these can be standalone by itself without any linkages to other chapters. It saves me a lot of time, especially if you just want to catch what the book is all about and only to come back later to read in detail.

  • Read the last chapter
  • Read any chapters that fancy you first
  • Get a notepad and take down the important details
  • Summarize into a few sentences with keywords
  • Set reminders on the related activities that you like to practice on
  • Don't rush to finish a book, enjoy the process as you gain new knowledge

Some of my favorite books:
