This is my experience dealing with founders that are seeking funds for their business, be it startups or SMEs.
Most of them think that they are unique and ready to be funded when out in the open talking to potential investors.
Have a read. It may save you some heartaches and build some patience in on what's to come.
Fund raising
- Needs a lot of patience as not all investors will stop their world for you to pitch and follow up.
- Not all investors can make the decisions on the spot, it be naive to think that just becos they expressed interests mean that they will invest.
- You are not unique. Never think that investors need you more than you need them. You need their money, you need their network, connection. They need you to make money for them.
- Is not personal. Never think that both can be buddy buddy just becos you took tons of photos, party together. They have their mandate, you are to meet fulfill them if you want to take their money.
- Not all investment is straightforward.
